Fall Fireplace Mantel

It’s Fall Y’all!

Here in Texas we are still experiencing some warm (ok, hot!!) weather, but I am so ready for the season of Fall! I could not wait to start decorating. This week I have been working on my fireplace mantel, and here’s what I came up with…

I wanted to have something big to use as a backdrop so I began with a large frame and mat that I got at Hobby Lobby.  I also wanted to make something and decided on a book page canvas that was multipurpose.  I love to decorate for fall, but in September go back and forth on fall or halloween.  So, I decided to paint BOO on one end and FALL on the other so that I can just rotate it and have options.  I’ll explain the book page canvas in a tutorial on a separate post soon.  On the left side I added in my mercury glass candlesticks using white candles and a smallish pumpkin on one for color.  In the center I used my clock from Pottery Barn on top of a book to ground it all.  On the right I made a moss wreath (that took about 5 minutes to make and I LOVE it) by using a grapevine wreath, reindeer moss and hot glue (all from HL).  It is so versatile I can only imagine the many homes it will have.  I also used a jar type of mercury glass candle holder (from HL) and a small pedestal and cloche (Yard Sale) with baby pumpkins inside.  I wish I had a good “system” that I could share for displays.  Unfortunately for me, I play with it.  I try to use odd numbers of things, for example, 3 splashes of orange spread across the mantel gives it a flow – Pumpkin on candlestick, Boo in orange and baby pumpkins on the pedestal.  It takes a little time, and sometimes even a couple of days of walking back and forth to see what it’s missing.  Just be patient and enjoy the process.  Cozy, Comfy, Fall Mantel!

The book page canvas really is a quick and easy craft project that I think gives great character to a display.  I’ve seen so many different options on Pinterest  and came up with this, like I said, for it’s versatility.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog so that you can get the tutorial!

Please comment and tell me what are you doing to welcome fall?  Next up Book Page Canvas Tutorial!
